When they say ‘fashions fade, style is eternal’, I’m pretty sure they meant it for The Row. This is exactly how I feel for the brand, more so for the SS15 collection. Put this show video back on in 5 years time you will not sense an ounce of ‘out-of-fashion’ moment. This is one of the shows that I’ve been looking forward to dwell into.
Focusing on the most organic way of wearing a piece of cloth (literally), The Row works on knotting, wrapping and slipping in-out, consciously staying away from buttons and zippers. Luxury fabrication and fit has always been a strength of the brand, the very same reason for high-end buyers who favour down-to-earth style in expensive textures are looking for.
Olsen said the inspiration is ‘raw silk’, which truly reflected in the pieces from head to toe. Using high quality silk and the like, it gives out long and lean silhouette with the perfect draping effect. This is the perfect material to do knotting and wrapping, as it is less heavy when it is done on such a delicate material. Most of the bottom pieces stop above ankle, creates lightness and balance out the flow.
This is at the edge of rawness, combining with luxury materials, The Row is looking to enter the realm of Hermes and Bottega Venetta alike. It is not an impossible task, because putting aside the Olsen’s name, The Row stands firm on its own two feet as a visionary brand that pushes boundaries, asking more questions and seeking answers.
