Public School is one of those stories. Rising fast and already received the CFDA Menswear Designer of The Year 2013, this young brand is truly on the right track.
Public School initially started out as a menswear brand, but soon enough they realised women are buying their clothes and making it smaller for themselves. Now it is a house of menswear and womenswear.
Public School prides itself as made in New York, from ideas to finishing details. Besides sourcing fabrics around the world, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow of Public School stay true to the place they called home. So much as they named the brand for sentimental value of the time they spent in New York public schools! A clever idea and true romantic gesture to tell your fashion story.
So it is true. New York is a big melting pot, and so it is clearly reflected in every collection by Public School. This time you have Parisian chic, street-wear, high-mixed-low, surfer dudes and Norwegian girls all in one. This is New York.
It is applaudable that brand is not trying to be someone they are not, something Public School has been doing right from day one. It maybe hard to define or categorise their styles, but so be it. The brand is set to vow the crowd who believe in interaction between cultures.
How I love a brand that places much attention on fabrication, and aim at producing garments that last a lifetime with personality. The SS15 collection sees a hint of blue and watercolour prints on shirts, dresses and jackets. Grey is always a sure win aka must-have (personal opinion). Giving out mostly relaxed cutting in different length, these are perfect layering garments one will treasure for years. Most importantly, the perfect pair of unisex sandal.
Ponytails and bare faces are welcome too. Especially the under eye circles seen on the models, those are truly a universal language!
