Movie Review: 《

<27°C – Loaf Rock> Movie Review

This is a 2013 Taiwan production, is an adaptation of the real life story of a baker who won gold medal in the Coupe Louise Lesaffre event few years back.

27°C, apparently is the best temperature for the dough fermentation process, and in this movie, it dedicated time to show us the long winding road of finding the right moment through hard work.

The story is about Wu Pao-Chun, who is the main character, and the real champion, was born very poor and has gotten to the city during his early teens to work in the bakery. He is not bright, but extremely hardworking, and after ten years of trial and error, Wu perfected his skills and gone to win the Coupe Louise Lesaffre title.

The fact that Wu is really interested in baking and making bread specifically, is an interesting point. He has no other motives or bigger plan, but all he wanted is to make better and tastier bread through creativity. Pure passion. That sets a nice and honest tone for the movie adaptation too.

The director mentioned the love story in this movie is fiction, and I am glad it is. I know the element of love is important in movie, but I find it is the weakest link in this story, for the love from Wu’s mother and best friends are far better and truthful.

Taiwanese actor Lego Lee (I know) plays the main character Wu, and for me, he has done a good job in portraying the simple, not-too-bright and hardworking Wu. The movie has a slow and sweet way of telling story, and the fact it takes a great effort to make tasty bread is a great reminder how we often discard something that means so much to others.
