Milan Fashion Week may not be as hot as Paris Fashion Week, but it has many of my favourite labels. They may not be the hottest, but they are the finest in their own ways. Ports 1961 is one of them.
This FW14 collection sees the continuation of the label’s core identity: sophistication and luxury in a subtle way. Low-key luxury has always been the center of its design, targeting straight to the ladies who want to look polished without the shiny effect.
Feminine in its detailing, with ruffles, sheer and soft materials falling on the skin, it then adds lines over it. The horizontal bands and the belts create shapes for the sophisticated silhouette. I like the lines created but pairing the pieces together at different height: the waistline cut, the low waist cut, and the above the knee cut. Each segment features different material, and as it goes: the opposite attracts.
Even the leather and the tweet coats looks very polished, simple and without additional spoilers added.
The lesson: you can create polished and sophisticated look by any type of pairing: slouchy pants with sheer, pencil skits with leather, pleats in leather, and many more, with the basic rule of knowing what is appropriate and what is not.
Ports 1961 always design for the strong women. I believe the corporate ladies are its biggest clientele. The top management ladies. The one who work hard and holds an important position, probably with a family, and who does not wasting time trying thousand different clothes before deciding on one. The ones who value direct contact with fine fabrics and polished cutting. The one who is willing to spend the money on good pieces that can last them for years, and will wear them again and again because these pieces are so fine. That lady, is a true blue Ports 1961 fan.
This FW14 collection looks perfectly suitable to be in That Lady’s closet.
