I was contemplating if I should do a post about JW Anderson, because I am so far behind and I think there are more interesting stories awaiting me. Plus, JW Anderson is now part of the LVMH Group, that immediately got me worry.
But he was the golden boy for past two seasons, and this FW14 he continue to work on shapes and silhouettes that pushes his fame to yet another level. Not forgetting his SS14 was very convincing, and most importantly, his menswear has always been so good that I take a second look at his womenswear.
Some of the looks are so convincing they come in different fabrics and colours, along with mighty attitude in it. They are part origami, and part industrial metal kind of feel. For me, it is fluidity and strength combined into one like the way Bruce Lee once described water: Be formless, water can flow or it can crash.
Seems that JW Anderson has been following that path.
I do like the collection, mostly the mixed of fabrication and the details. Putting different materials together is always a tricky job. There are of course textbook rules on what to do and what not to do, but again that is for fashion student, not for someone like JW Anderson. So if you push it to the limits, you might get it wrong sometimes. It is never easy. Hence, there is a reason why he has been the golden boy for awhile. He has gotten it on the right track.
The colour scheme bring out the strength in the fabrics, and clearly outlined his meticulous work. A particular shade of grey, or nude, or cream in a particular fabrication, it just feel right!
Ah, and the footwear!
